Top 5 LEGO® Minifigures Series sets to collect!

Just a quick disclaimer to say that everything in this article is my own opinion. I am not actively advocating that these are the sets you need to collect/buy, but I am saying is that I feel that these sets are the most appealing to me based and variety of things, such as; design, sentiment, nostalgia etc.

As of writing this (March 2025), there have been 47 LEGO® Minifigures series produced. The first series - Minifigure Series 1 was released 15 years ago in March 2010 now to the latest series- Minifigure Series 27 which was released at the start of this year.

LEGO® have also collaborated with many IP's to create various spin offs from their usually numbered series. Simpsons, Marvel, Team GB and Disney just to rattle of a few of many from the top on my head. Somewhat incredible to witness the rise and popularity of the humble minifigure to be playing a major role in the LEGO® brand going forward.

Here is my list of my top 5 minifigures series sets that you should be collecting in 2025.

5. LEGO® Minifigure Series 6

Released in 2012 this was the first series to really push the boat on creativity with its character development. It was also when we saw a real adaption for moulded heads. I know we had the Space Alien in Series 3, but this series we got three; The clockwork robot, classic alien and the minotaur. At the time I thought LEGO® really made the push to expand the minifigure theme. The creativity behind some of the characters which is what made this set memorable.

4. LEGO® Minifigure Series 20

Needing no introduction, Series 20 has undoubtedly produced two of the most popular and most expensive minifigure series figures. Historically LEGO® figures from a certain era like Castle, Medievil, Roman have always always been fairly well received. Take the Classic King, Heroic Knight or even Spartan Warrior for example. LEGO® would have knew that they were one to a winner when they produced both the Viking and Tornumanent Knight. Both packed full of detail, colour and dual wielding accessories, this had to make it into the top 5

3. LEGO® Minifigure Series 18

More of a nostalgic one for me, Series 18 was the first real set that my children began to take interest in and collect. Being the 40th anniversary of LEGO® I was originally drawn to the colourful vibes and oranges plates. A firm contrast of party characters and nostalgia like the humble 2x4 red brick and the vintage policeman. A very interesting set which pays homage to its distant beginnings whilst also celebrating its achievements.

2. LEGO® Disney Series 2

LEGO® as a company has always doing a fantastic job of catering to all demographics. I mean they dont lie when they put ages 3-99 on the box do they!? This certainly applies to this series - the combination of characters is what really sets this series off.

The variety of characters takes you down the Disney timeline. You got the latest Disney characters like Elsa and Anna from Frozen- a big hit with the younger audience. Skip a couple of decades and then we have Hercules and Jafar. This was the era of Disney which I grew up in. Lastly we go all the way back to the 1920's with the black and white Steamboat Willie figure. It's a great timeline into how Disney has evolved of the years and LEGO® really do play on this exceptionally well.

  1. LEGO® Dungeons and Dragons

Have I played Dungeons and Dragons before, nope. Do I know any of the characters. Definitely not. Is this the best minifigure series LEGO® has made. Absolutely!

This is a homerun series for a variety of reasons and I will tell you why.

  • Design Features - It was very evident from the initial release of this set that they weren't going to skimp on this series. Some of the elements that really popped off  were the rangers claw like legs and the mind flayers moulded head piece. The inclusion of the different pastels and colours going on really matches each characters personalities.
  • Two Dual Heads - LEGO® addressed a very common problem we all have collecting CMF, duplicates. Of course a dual head is great for dupes, but getting two dual heads, both a male and female with multiple expressions is very relevant  to this day and age.
  • Stacked Accessories - Every figure has a minimum of two accessories. This includes a variety of new capes, weapons, creatures and general items. The Strahd Von Zarovich figure has a whopping four accessories.

I hope LEGO® can emulate more sub sets like Dungeons and Dragons in the future.  Heck even embrace it for the main numbered series.

We have now the latest F1 Race Collectables to look forward to in the spring. I am unsure how these are going to be received, only time will tell. Thanks for reading. :)
